The Best Engagement Photo Locations in Washington DC

Where to Take Engagement Photos in DC That Feel Like You. Here is a Roundup of the Best Engagement Photo Locations in DC (in my humble opinion).

Your engagement session is the first visual chapter of your wedding story. It should feel natural, polished, and personal. The best engagement photo locations in DC, or any city, are absolutely subjective – there’s so many options. However, whether you’re drawn to old-world architecture or peaceful gardens, Washington DC offers a beautiful variety of classic backdrops.

For couples who want to blend sophistication with a little fun, here are some of my favorite and, in my opinion, five of the most timeless engagement session locations in The District.

National Gallery of Art

Couple walking during their engagement session at the National Gallery of Art, one of the best engagement photo locations in DC.

Understated, refined, and full of natural light, the Gallery’s grand columns and marble interiors lend themselves to quiet portraits with museum-level beauty. With the juxtaposition of the modern architecture of the East and the history of the West building, this one is at the top of the list for the best engagement photo locations in DC for a reason.

Bishop’s Garden at the National Cathedral

Couple posing in an editorial way at Bishop's Garden, one of the best engagement photo locations in DC.

Tucked behind the National Cathedral, this intimate garden features archways, floral paths, and soft evening light; perfect for romantic moments and editorial angles.

Jefferson Memorial (at sunrise)

Early morning at the Jefferson is quiet and dreamy. With its reflecting pool and sweeping views, it’s ideal for classic portraits and meaningful stillness.

Tudor Place in Georgetown

Couple walking at Tudor Place, a historic home and garden in Georgetown. The woman is wearing a blue dress and the man is wearing white chinos, brown shoes and a blue jacket.

This Georgetown landmarks feels like a secret garden. With European charm and lush landscaping, they offer structure and softness in every frame. I love it so much that my fiancé and I actually took our own engagement photos here, pictured above.

The Streets of Georgetown and the C&O Canal Towpath

Couple posing in the C&O Canal in Georgetown with moss covered walls.

Cobblestone alleyways, ivy-covered walls, the most gorgeous sunsets, and canal views make this part of Georgetown a favorite. It’s perfect for couples who want their session to feel like a stroll through a romantic film set: simple, timeless, and a little spontaneous.
